-BACKGROUND-

At NYU, a new friend named Carl Restivo asked Robbie if he would play guitar in the studio to help record his band's album so Restivo could concentrate on vocals.  Having mainly been a bassist thus far, this started Robbie’s guitar career and soon went on to lead guitar in the group.  He later played bass in Frank Zappa tribute project (Project/Object) for a few shows, but was asked again if he could fill in on guitar to replace a keyboardist and Robbie agreed, leading him onto his first tour as a guitarist.  After several tours with that band, Robbie was asked to join RCA recording artists The Sound of Urchin in which he recorded and toured for 6 years.  He was asked to play lead guitar for the Zappa-alumni group, The Grandmothers of Invention featuring Napoleon Murphy Brock, Don Preston, Roy Estrada, and Tom Fowler.  He later joined Sean Lennon’s group, The GOASTT, until the band took a hiatus.  Robbie then toured in Banned from Utopia featuring Zappa-alumni Ray White, Albert Wing, Robert Martin, and Tom Fowler.  Robbie then toured with Rickie Lee Jones in which he played guitar, bass, keyboard, and backing vocals.
